Threatened: McCloud Hospital, McCloud, CA

I stumbled upon this rare find in the historic community of McCloud, a former company town in northern California.  This circa 1903 company hospital was until recently still operating as a hospital, but unfortunately has suffered with us through poor economic times.  It's up for sale for $135K, on a couple acres and in great need of attention.  The 1976 film Baby Blue Marine was filmed here.  It's located among elegant mountain homes, lodges, and bed & breakfasts at the base of Mt. Shasta.

The Mt Shasta News covered this property in September of 2010.

  1. This beutiful property was bought for renovation by a dr. and his wife. It should have a new roof before summers end and they have some great plans for the building.

    1. This is great news Boss, and how fitting for a doctor to pursue its renovation. Hopefully, I will be able to update this posting to "saved" sometime after the restoration. The new owners will benefit from pursuing the building's historic registry.

    2. The doctors wife became very sick and the renovation has been halted. My husband and his twin, which, passed away the following day were born in this hospital. We visited the site just today. Very earie and very sad

  2. My family and I stayed there during its previous incarnation as a BnB. We were so sad to see that it had closed for business and was rapidly deteriorating as it waited for a new owner to come along. The town of McCloud has had some tough times lately due to the economy but it has such incredible natural beauty and resources, I knew it was just a matter of time until the right person came along recognizing the Old Hospital's tremendous potential. Sounds like the Doctor and his wife are a perfect fit for this landmark property! Perhaps the Sunset Dinner Train will return too! I can dream...
